  • Complete TARPS Test Kit includes Examiner's Manual and 25 English Test Booklets. (1993)
The TARPS provides a quick, unitary assessment of auditory processing skills. It presents various types of tasks designed to show how well a child is able to utilize auditorily-presented information. The tasks encompass reasoning, developing new ideas, drawing inferences, solving problems, and acquiring and organizing knowledge.

The TARPS consists of 58 questions that provide a qualitative and quantitative analysis of thinking skills. The questions are read to the student ; the answers are recorded verbatim by the examiner. The manual includes the acceptable answers so that the scoring will be unambiguous and objective. The test items were designed to be stimulating - they were not limited only to what the child may have learned in formal schooling environments or in enriched home environments. Effort was made to ensure that the items were not biased in relation to ethnicity, gender, education or language.

The TARPS was designed to be used by a variety of testing professionals such as psychologists, learning specialists, counselors, speech/language pathologists, optometrists, occupational therapists, and special education teachers. TARPS was standardized on over 1100 students enrolled in regular education classes.

Administration and Scoring
The TARPS is individually-administered and can be completed and scored easily in about 10-20 minutes. Differential starting points based on age are used; basals and ceilings are easily established to delineate a student's ability level. Test results are presented as one overall score that can be reported as a standard score, scaled score, stanine, or percentile rank. Age-equivalent scores are also provided.
